Exciting Program for the 2015 Aboriginal Cultural Showcase

The Aboriginal Cultural Showcase will run from the 19th to the 24th of January, being held for the first time at the Viaduct Park in Tamworth. The Showcase has been developed to expose and develop the talent of new emerging Aboriginal musicians and to create a variety of opportunities for Aboriginal musicians, performers and craftspeople to celebrate and promote their talents and culture throughout the Tamworth Country Music Festival program.

The exciting cultural program for 2015 will include a range of diverse events and opportunities. The opening ceremony will be held at 4pm on the 19th of January, with busking happening daily between 11am and 3.30pm. Nightly shows from 4pm with walk ups and feature performances including Tangled up, Aimee Hannan, Billy Pitt, Rodger Knox and friends. There will also be workshops held daily including hat painting, carving, dance, boomerang throwing, storytelling and rock painting. The Gomeroi Dance Company will be conducting workshops and perform throughout the Showcase as well as the band, didiJital, which has been “described as a cross between an urban Yothu Yindi and the Chemical Brothers. Frontman Shane Nelson sings about real issues facing today’s first Australians. Using language to inspire and motivate, driving percussion to quicken your natural rhythms and a blend of house beats and FX designed to firmly plant you on the dance floor”. The finale concert will be held at 4pm on Saturday the 24th.

Arts North West Aboriginal Arts Officer, Lorrayne Riggs is thrilled about this year’s lineup. “This vibrant event showcases young and emerging Aboriginal talent from across Australia within a unique cultural environment. Previous Showcases have attracted thousands of people from all backgrounds and demonstrated a broad range of social benefits such as promoting reconciliation, cultural awareness and community healing.

The Showcase is a not-for-profit event and any profits are returned to increasing opportunities at future events. We are committed to achieving our vision by making the Showcase an accessible event for Festival-goers”
