Pocket Productions brings Bloodwood Quartet to the Region this April

Pocket Productions was launched last year as an Arts North West initiative to deliver high quality productions to smaller communities and villages in the New England North West. This April, the network will welcome a series of concerts by the wonderful Bloodwood Quartet.

The Bloodwood Quartet was formed in 2006 at Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has toured extensively in Australia and abroad as cultural ambassadors for Sydney University.

Bloodwood developed a close relationship with Bloodwood Winery in Orange, NSW and have been collaborating with the Winery for their food and wine festivals regularly since 2006.  Laura Curotta (viola) and Robert Jackson (cello) remain from the original quartet formation and now reside in Armidale.  They are on faculty at the New England Conservatorium of Music and perform throughout New England and the North West.  They are joined on violin by Daniel Lopez and Jason Tong, both sought after Brisbane-based musicians.  Eleanor Streatfeild, cellist, formerly of Armidale, will be appearing as a guest artist on this tour to complete the quintet formation for works by Boccherini and Schubert.

London Klezmer Quartet Australian Tour Heading Our Way in 2018

The Arts North West ON TOUR Network will be kicking off 2018 in style as they welcome London Klezmer Quartet to tour the New England North West region.

The London Klezmer Quartet is a dynamic group of performers whose deep understanding of klezmer, the celebratory and soulful music of Eastern European Jews, is reflected in exuberant, passionate and accomplished performances that captivate audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Dance, sing, laugh and cry as the London Klezmer Quartet takes you on a musical odyssey from Eastern Europe to Australia via the Balkans, Thailand, Turkey, the US and London. The group plays old and new traditional music on fiddle, clarinet, accordion and double bass, and presents songs of love, life, food and drink. "The real deal, to these ears." Fall of The Roman Umpire Charms Local Communities

Arts North West’s new initiative POCKET PRODUCTIONS launched in the New England North West in March and was a huge success!

Small communities in Emerald Hill, Walcha, Breeza, Warialda, Barraba, Bundarra, Deepwater and Ben Lomond were delighted to host the one man show The Fall of the Roman Umpire, directed & performed by Dennis Coard.

This autobiographical show was charming, cheeky, fascinating and very very funny.

For many of these New England North West communities, it is the first time theatre has been performed in their wonderful halls.  True country hospitality was on show with organisers offering suppers, nibbles and drinks making the event a great night out.

These beautiful halls are at the heart of their communities, and provide a much needed place for people to get together.  In some cases, it is not the first time that Arts North West has visited with an arts project – in 2016 Breeza, Bundarra, Deepwater and Ben Lomond played host to the eco-dyeing textile workshops Creativitea.

The overwhelming feedback from the communities is “what’s next?!  We want more!”   Pocket Productions aims to offer affordable and professional theatre and musical productions to suit smaller community venues  based on the successful Arts North West ON TOUR model to established performing arts venues across the region.
