Come along to a free 2 day songwriting and music industry workshop for Aboriginal songwriters in the regional North West NSW region.

Facilitated by: Michael Hutchings of the APRA AMCOS ATSI (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) office and renowned Aboriginal singer song writer Leah Flanagan.
From Leah, as well as Michael Hutchings of APRA AMCOS ATSI office, Luke Peacock (self managed artist and songwriter), Rob Scott of Source Music (publishing and record label), Sophie Miles of Mistletone (publicity and marketing) and music producer Neal Sutherland, you will gain an insight into the music industry in NSW and beyond.
The workshop is split into two days: one day for songwriting techniques and advice, live performance and production skills, and the second to focus on business issues – how to get a gig, music industry management ,how to get your song to radio, touring, publicity and marketing.
The workshop is free and registration is on a first come, first served basis. Background:
Starting Ground is an initiative of the APRA AMCOS ATSI office and funded by the NSW Government (through ArtsNSW) via its three-year Aboriginal Arts and Cultural Strategy. Starting Ground will also be hosted in Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Bathurst and Campbelltown in the coming months.
Leah Flanagan said of the initiative, "I would like to see Aboriginal artists based in regional areas have access to the same opportunities, training and support as artists based in major cities. Starting Ground is a way to connect these arts communities with the music industry on a needs basis as every region in NSW has its own unique scene.”
