A Vibrant Celebration of Aboriginal Culture in Moree

For the first time ever, the Blak Markets came to Moree in 2023, creating an unforgettable day of culture, creativity, and community. Held on Sunday, 29 October 2023, at the Aboriginal Sculpture Walk in Jellicoe Park, this vibrant event brought together over 20 talented First Nations artists from across the New England North West, along with an exciting festival program showcasing local cultural performances.

Stallholders at the Blak Markets offered a stunning array of authentic, handmade treasures, including artworks, clothing, jewellery, homewares, and bushfoods. The atmosphere buzzed with the spirit of creativity and collaboration, as the event became a beautiful celebration of Aboriginal culture, art, and craftsmanship.

This milestone event was made possible through the efforts of First Hand Solutions Aboriginal Corporation, in partnership with the local Aboriginal community, and proudly supported by AES, Arts North West, and the Department of Regional NSW.

Arts North West’s involvement was funded by Create NSW and the Australian Government’s Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support Program, reflecting a commitment to elevating First Nations art and culture.

The 2023 Moree Blak Markets was a day to remember—a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection that left the community inspired and proud.
