CREATIVITea: Chat Create Connect

In partnership with Centacare New England North West, The Ascent Group, Carers NSW and Schizophrenia Fellowship, Arts North West delivered 10 creative workshops for women from New England North West rural communities. Women from Deepwater, Urbenville, Ben Lomond, Ebor, Gravesend, Pilliga, Mungindi, Breeza, Maules Creek and Bundarra took part in the CreativiTea Project, a full day of creativity and conversation, learning different textile techniques mainly how to dye with plants and use various embellishments. Participants created beautiful individual works that will become part of a larger contemporary quilt. Working collaboratively on a creative project is an effective way to ignite conversation and discussion centered on shared emotions and the experiences of living in drought affected regions and connect people to their communities. The experience of sharing stories and discovering the joy of creativity was a huge morale boost and a much needed respite from the difficulties of the everyday for participants.
